Welcome to
Teen Mental Health Society!

Teen Mental Health Society started as a small Zoom-based organization in September of 2020 in Mumbai, India amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. It served as a virtual platform for teenagers and young adults to come together every Sunday to find tiny pieces of hope, a sense of community,  and resilience during the long, haunting months of lockdown.

School Mental Well-being Program

Half of all mental health conditions start by 14 years of age, but most cases go undetected and untreated.

In response to the escalating demand for comprehensive mental health support within the Indian education system, we present the School Mental Well-being Program. This program is thoughtfully curated to empower educators with the expertise, skills, and resources required to prioritize mental health for both themselves and their students. By fostering an inclusive school environment, we intend to cultivate well-being, academic excellence, and resilience.

"I've been struggling alone with my mental health. I wish someone would notice"

"I wish I had the tools to better understand and support my students' mental health."

Bridging the Gap, One School at a Time

From the Founder's Desk
Aayushi Kulsunge

In 2020, stuck at home amid a deadly, global pandemic, I saw everyone around me struggling with their mental health just as much, if not, more than their physical health. The pandemic was a threat to both our mental and physical well-being at the same time.

I was diagnosed with clinical depression at 15 years old and it didn't take me long to understand that even having access to a psychiatrist who could diagnose me was a privilege. From watching my father drive to three different cities to buy antidepressants to noticing the lack of mental health resources in my school, I noticed the loopholes and stigma attached to mental health.

At 16, I started the Teen Mental Health Society to raise awareness about common mental health disorders, the early indicators of an underlying mental health condition, and establishing dialogue about the topic. Seeing TMHS grow from a figment of my imagination to a globally celebrated nonprofit organization in the span of a couple of years has been my greatest joy, and I am grateful that you are here today!
